Twin sisters Addison and Ava Apostolopoulos went to their grandmother’s apartment for a fun day of swimming this summer. What they didn’t know when they arrived at the pool was that their quick actions on that warm June day would save a young girl’s life.

While walking around the pool deck, the twins noticed a small child unresponsive at the bottom of the pool. Ava asked Addison if she thought the little girl needed help. Addison immediately said yes. While she ran to get her goggles, Ava knew there was no time to waste. She jumped in and pulled the 4-year-old girl to the surface, where Hillsdale Apartments’ maintenance worker, Cody Boyette, started CPR. Boyette revived the young girl before she was rushed to the hospital and survived thanks to the swift actions of the Apostolopoulos twins and Boyette.

In July, the Pleasant Lake Elementary fifth graders and Boyette were honored by the Wixom City Council and Wixom Police Chief Peter Langmeyer with Civilian Citation Awards for their life-saving actions.
